SURVEY CREW CHIEF

We are seeking a Survey Crew Chief for our Richmond office. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and a self-reliant individual who has a genuine interest in land surveying.

Role and Responsibility

  • Provides day-to-day supervision of assigned survey field crew on quality and survey methodology, including training    and mentoring of junior level employees.

  • Works independently as a one-person crew, as needed.

  • Selects and applies appropriate equipment to accurately perform the services.

  • Coordinates with client and/or other stakeholders to provide survey services.

  • Follows policy and procedures to insure all work is done accurately and efficiently.

  • Identifies controls for property lines and makes decisions regarding how to proceed with the survey.

  • Gathers all necessary information needed to properly perform the survey in the most time efficient manner.

  • Makes calculations and maintains records essential to survey.

  • Oversees and coordinates the effective maintenance and operation of vehicles, equipment, tools and supplies.

  • Responds appropriately to all employee performance issues of assigned survey field crew.

  • Continually advances knowledge with upgrades in technology.

  • Selects and implements proper maintenance of traffic control signs.

  • Performs project set up and ensures work is executed in accordance to project scope.

  • Performs initial QA/QC of all paperwork received from the field employees.

  • Performs all Survey Instrument Operator functions when needed.

  • Understands and interprets utility and highway design plans, atlases and record drawings.

  • Trains other crew members.

  • Maintains expert knowledge of policies and procedures of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

  • Maintains certifications (including traffic control) related to his/her role. 

  • Ensures that company policies and procedures are being followed in the field so that all work is done accurately and efficiently.

  • Attends meetings in and out of the office, including Safety Meetings.

  • Maintains regular, predictable and punctual attendance to ensure on-time crew departure to job sites.

Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent (minimum).

  • Heavy outdoor work in all types of weather conditions.

  • 3-5 years of experience in supervising field crews.

  • Frequent travel with multiple overnight stays.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Superior collaboration and communication skills.

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Detail oriented and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Excellent time management skills.

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime as needed.

SURVEY INSTRUMENT OPERATOR

We are seeking a Survey Instrument Operator for our Manassas and Richmond offices. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and a self-reliant individual who has a genuine interest in land surveying.

Role and Responsibility

  • Assists the Crew Chief with all aspects of the daily crew workload.

  • Assists in the performance of boundary, ALTA, topographic, right-of way acquisition, transmission line, transportation, and construction surveys.

  • Responsible for daily uploading and downloading of data collectors, daily care and charging of instrumentation.

  • Assists in gathering all necessary information needed to properly perform the survey in the most time-efficient manner.

  • Assists in making calculations and maintaining records essential to survey.

  • Assists Crew Chief with the effective maintenance and operation of vehicles, equipment, tools and supplies.

  • Assists in accurately and efficiently collecting field data and completing the necessary paperwork in accordance with company guidelines.

  • Maintains certifications (including traffic control) related to his/her role.

  • Follows policies and procedures to ensure all work is done accurately and efficiently.

  • Attends meetings in and out of the office, including Safety Meetings.

  • Maintains regular, predictable, and punctual attendance to ensure on-time crew departure to job sites.

Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent (minimum).

  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

  • Current OSHA safety and confined space training preferred, but not required.

  • 2+ years of experience as a survey instrument operator.

  • Experience with survey equipment (GPS, Robotics, Total Stations, Levels, and Data Collectors) and data collection software.

  • Frequent travel with multiple overnight stays.

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license.

  • Good collaboration and communication skills.

  • Good computer and data collector skills.

  • Good mathematical skills.

  • Detail-oriented and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime as needed.

SENIOR SURVEY CADD TECHNICIAN

We are seeking a Senior Survey CADD Technician for our Virginia Beach office. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and a self-reliant individual who has a genuine interest in CADD.

Role and Responsibility

  • Performs quality control checks of plats and drawings prepared by other technicians.  

  • Trains junior staff members.

  • Ensures schedules and productivity objectives set by Project Manager for survey deliverables are achieved.

  • Drafts as-built, boundary, ALTA, topographic, right-of way acquisition, transmission line, utility, transportation, and construction surveys.

  • Assists the Project Manager with all aspects field crew preparation as needed.

  • Processes field collection files and maintains database.

  • Prepares digital terrain models and contouring.

  • Responsible for deed, plat and document research, title and easement review.

  • Works in the field on as-needed basis and maintains a general understanding of safe traffic procedures.

  • Works independently as required.

  • Continually advances knowledge with upgrades in technology.

  • Follows policies and procedures to insure all work is done accurately and efficiently.

  • Attends meetings in and out of the office, including Safety Meetings.

Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent (minimum).

  • 5-10 years of survey (office and field) experience required.

  • Proficiency with the use of data collection software and survey equipment (GPS, Robotics, Total Stations, Levels, and Data Collectors).

  • Proficiency with deed, plat, easements, and document research in the various Virginia jurisdictions.

  • Familiarity with VDOT standards is highly desirable.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.

  • Detail oriented and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Excellent computer and data collector skills.

  • Excellent mathematical skills.

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime as needed.
