PROJECT EXPERIENCE:
Indian Run Topographic Survey

Location: FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA

Indian Run Topographic Survey Project Background: In August of 2007 Fairfax County received the Cameron Run Watershed Management Plan prepared by Versar, Inc. The document is in support of a strategic plan that will protect and improve the condition of water resources within the watershed over the next 25 years.

$47.4 million has been earmarked for improvements during that period of time. The projects identified will fall into 4 categories: Low Impact Development, New Storm Water Management Ponds, Storm Water Management Pond retrofits, and Stream restoration. Indian Run is identified as one of the six major streams and tributaries of the overall Cameron Run Watershed.

Indian Run Topographic Survey Work Performed: Rice Associates was enlisted by Fairfax County in January 2009 to provide a comprehensive topographic survey of Indian Run along Indian Run Parkway from approximately 900' North West of Edsal Road to the confluence of Backlick Run.

The results of the survey are being used to develop design and construction documents for a stream restoration project to be awarded in the fall of 2009 with a completion date of winter of 2010. The task included the establishment of control, based on the North American Datum (NAD) 83 and National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD) 29 by means of the Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS).
